Congress leader has unfollowed a large number of TV anchors and journalists on Twitter, triggered controversy. This was after it emerged that the Congress MP from Wayanad had unfollowed many journalists and those associated with TV channels.

Among those unfollowed by Gandhi included Barkha Dutt, Rajdeep Sardesai, Nidhi Razdan and his aide Nikhil Alva among others.

Pallavi Ghosh of CNN-News18 tweeted, “It’s totally a leaders’ prerogative to follow unfollow- but the way done reflects distrust of a professional or profession u also need to take along.”

Ghosh too is believed to have been unfollowed by the former Congress president.

Barkha Dutt was quoted by The Print as saying, ““Because I am on the road covering Covid, this news, which I got to know from you, gave me a LOL [laugh out loud] moment. It frankly reflects all that is wrong with the Congress’ engagement with media and the larger sphere of politics.”

Gandhi has in excess of 18 million followers while he follows 219 Twitter accounts. Most of the accounts followed by Gandhi are his party colleagues. They also include some scholars and activists such as Ashok Swain and Saket Gokhale.

Incidentally, Gandhi continues to follow late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, who died battling cancer last year.

Gandhi is also believed to have unfollowed Pratik Sinha of Alt News.

The Congress has not yet commented on why Gandhi decided to suddenly unfollow host of media personnel and some of his own colleagues.
