A Mumbai court on Friday refused bail to Aryan Khan, the son of Shah Rukh Khan, in a drug case.
According to Livelaw, while refusing the bail to Aryan, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha, the court said that this was ‘not maintainable.’
ASG Anil Singh had opposed the bail on the grounds of maintainability as he argued that the allegations against the accused could only come up for trial in the special court of sessions under the NDPS Act and not the magistrate court.
The judge on Thursday had rejected further custody of Aryan to the Narcotics Control Bureau.
While representing Aryan Khan, his lawyer Satish Maneshinde had said, “Just because I come from an affluent family doesn’t mean I’ll tamper with evidence. What influence have I used? I am suffering from the last six days.”
This was in response to the government lawyer, who said that the accused could tamper with the evidence he was an influential person.
The NCB had arrested Aryan along with seven others from a Goa-bound ship last week. Several Bollywood celebrities including Sunil Shetty, Hrithik Roshan and Raveena Tandon have extended their public support to Aryan.
Salman Khan too had reportedly visited Shah Rukh Khan’s residence to express his solidarity during the latter’s moment of tryst.
With bail being denied, Aryan will now have to spend at least a night in jail before his bail plea comes up for hearing at a sessions court.
