Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma has finally opened up to talk about his wife-to-be Ginni Chatrath two weeks before the couple is expected to tie the knot. In a no-holds-barred interview, the popular comedian said how he had first met Ginni and even faced rejection by her father.
He told Times of India, “She studied in HMV College (Jalandhar). I was a scholarship holder, as I was a national winner in theatre. I was a student of APJ College and in order to make some pocket money, I started directing plays. I went to audition students at her college and that’s how we met in 2005.”
Ginni, for her part, said how Kapil called her in December 2016 to say that he wanted to marry her. This was after her father had earlier rejected his marriage proposal. Calling Kapil a ‘gem of a person,’ Ginni said that he was very caring. “There is no one like him and I can’t find anyone better than him. He is a family man. If he loves his mother and sister so much, it’s certain that he would love his partner, too. He is a star for the audience, not for me. He is still humble the way he was years ago and hasn’t changed at all,” she told Times of India.
When did he fall in love with Ginni? Kapil said, “One day, I directly asked Ginni, ‘Tu mujhe like toh nahi karti?’ and she denied. Later, at a youth festival, I introduced her to my mother as one of my students. Then I came to Mumbai for the Laughter Challenge audition and by then, I had also appeared on a Punjabi TV channel. Ginni was impressed with me because I was studying and working at such a young age.”
In his rare public display of love earlier this month, Kapil had written to Ginni, “Thank u for always standing strong with me in every situation of life.,thank u for making me a better person.,thank u for ur unconditional love. Happy birthday @ginnichatrath love u.”
Kapil gained popularity after he took part in the reality show he Great Indian Laughter Challenge 3. He then went on to take part in Sony TV’s Comedy Circus before securing his own show Friday Night with Kapil Sharma, a show that instantly catapulted him to stardom and he became a national phenomenon.
Earlier this year, he faced his first major failure after Sony took off his show, pushing the star into depression. It’s reported that after undergoing therapy, the star is all set to return to Sony TV with the same show. However, his new show will also have Bharti Singh and Krushna Abhishek among others.
