In his Facebook post, Sarkar had described virgin girls as ‘sealed bottle’ before deleting the post in view of a raging controversy over his social media post. His social media post had asked if people were willing to buy a bottle of cold drink or a packet of biscuits with a broken seal while concluding that ‘virgin wife is like angel.’
He had written, “Many boys remain fool. They are not aware of virgin girl as wife. Virgin girl is like Sealed Bottle or sealed packet. Are you willing to buy broken seal while purchasing a Bottle of Cold drinks or a packet of biscuits?”
His comments had led to a full-blown controversy on the campus with Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das slamming the professor. He had also promised a stringent action against the professor.
The National Commission for Women too had reacted angrily and taken up the matter with the West Bengal Police. It had said, “.@NCWIndia has taken Suo Motu cognisance of objectionable statements made by a #Jadavpur University professor. A team from @NCWindia, led by Smt. @sharmarekha, will meet the University’s Vice Chancellor to discuss the matter during their scheduled visit to #WestBengal this week.”
In its subsequent gtweet, the NCw had said, “.@NCWIndia has also written to DGP, #WestBengal directing him to investigate the matter and take appropriate action as per the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.”
