Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard is facing widespread condemnation as netizens declared her a ‘psychopath’ after she alleged that she was being unfairly targeted on social media. Her angry outbursts against social media users prompted her detractors to trend hashtag #AmberHeardlsApsychopath in the US.
Speaking to Today’s Savannah Guthrie of the NBC, 36-year-old Heard said, “You cannot tell me that you think that this (social media representation) has been fair.”
She added, “Even somebody, who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I am lying, you still couldn’t look in my eyes and tell me that on social media there has been a fair representation.”
Heard, however, said that she did not blame the jury for ruling her ex-husband’s favour. “I don’t blame them (the jury). I actually understand. He’s a beloved character and people feel they know him. He’s a fantastic actor,” Heard said.
“Let this be a reminder that @realamberheard is trash, racist, and now an abuser,” wrote another Twitter user.

When Guthrie told her that the jury were not expected to be swayed by an individual’s popularity or reputation, Heard replied, “Again, how could they? After listening to three-and-a-half weeks of testimony about how I was a non-credible person. Not to believe a word that came out of my mouth.”
Her allegations evoked angry reactions from netizens as one wrote, ‘SHUT UP #AmberTurd you are a sad person who likes to blame others and you didn’t win because of biased jury it’s because they knew you was LYING.”
Another commented, “A woman who screamed, Johnny just move on, is now doing an interview on the Today Show to accuse the jury of bias and repeat the lie once again that Johnny abused her! Amber Heard will never change because abusers never do!”
A jury had ruled in Depp’s favour and ordered Heard to pay a compensation of $15m to her ex-husband. The jury had also awarded $2m to Heard after she successfully argued that one of Depp’s attorneys defamed her by claiming her allegations were ‘an abuse hoax’ aimed at taking advantage of the #MeToo movement.
Depp had filed a defamation case against Heard for an article written by her in Washington Post, where she had called herself a survivor of domestic abuse. The trial that lasted for several weeks had garnered global attention.
