The BJP MP, Hema Malini, has said she was saddened over the death of a child by her speeding car on Thursday evening in Rajasthan adding that she was “very sad and in a distressed mind” after hearing the news.

A statement released by her on Friday evening said, “I can realise the hard time the family is facing after her death. I pray to god to give them strength to bear this loss.” The actress-turned-politician described the accident as ‘most unfortunate.’

Jantakareporter.com had earlier reported how two-year-old Chinni was killed by Hema Malini’s speeding car. Chinni’s mother and other relatives are still admitted in hospital receiving treatment for injuries.

Hema Malini thanked her well-wishers saying she was “overwhelmed by their greetings and their concern over my health.”

Earlier on Friday, many reports said that the BJP MP had undergone plastic surgery for her wounds at Fortis hospital in Jaipur.

“She had lacerations in para-nasal area and on the forehead near the right eyebrow,” P Tamboli, facility director at Fortis was reported as saying.

“A surgery of debridement and repair of lacerated wounds was carried out post midnight. It was a two-hour long process under general anaesthesia. She is now in post-operative intensive care unit,” he had said.

Later, Chinni’s father Harsh Khandelwal, had said that his baby too could have been saved if there was no delay in providing medical help to her just like it was done to the actress.

According to him while all five members of his family in their car lay bleeding on the road for about 20-25 minutes till help arrived, the BJP lawmaker was immediately rushed to Jaipur’s posh Fortis hospital by a local doctor.
