Delhi-based Punjabi singer booked for raping woman

Police in Delhi have booked a Punjabi singer in the national capital after a woman in the national capital filed a case of rape against him.

Police said that the Delhi-based Punjabi singer, Amandeep Singh Lamba, has had been accused of raping the woman in March this year. A case was registered in the first week of July, PTI quoted a police officer as saying. The complainant’s statement has been recorded and her medical examination completed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya confirmed that Lamba had been charged under Section 376 (punishment for rape) based on the complaint of a Delhi-based woman.

“The accused was granted interim protection from the court with direction to join investigation on Thursday,” a police officer was quoted as saying.

The woman in her complaint reportedly said that Lamba had raped her on the pretext of marrying her.

Lamba had been granted exemption by a court from joining the investigation till 18 July. He will join the investigation at Mehrauli police station on Thursday, a police officer said.
