Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has extended ane extraordinary support to Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli after a Hindutva fanatic issued a rape threat to the cricketer’s 9-month-old daughter for his decision to support Mohammad Shami, who was being hounded for his Muslim identity after Indian lost to Pakistan in the World Cup.

Gandhi tweeted, “Dear Virat, These people are filled with hate because nobody gives them any love. Forgive them. Protect the team.”

Hindutva hatemongers including those linked with fake news platform OpIndia had slammed Kohli after he lashed out at those who had targeted Mohammad Shami due to his Muslim identity. Shami was accused of accepting money from Pakistan since his expensive over led to India’s defeat against their arch-rivals in the opening match at the T20 World Cup.

Reacting to Shami’s hounding by Hindutva hatemongers, Kohli had said that this was ‘the most pathetic thing human being can do.’

“There is a good reason why we are playing on the field and not some bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to actually speak to any individual in person. This is the lowest level of human form, attacking someone over religion is the most pathetic thing human being can do,” Kohli had said in a press conference.

The Delhi Commission for Women has served a notice to the Delhi Police asking them to immediately arrest the person who issued the rape threat to Kohli’s 9-month-old baby. DCW Chief Swati Maliwal had said, “I am informed that some people are threatening to rape the 9-month-old daughter of Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli. That’s because India lost to Pakistan and Virat Kohli supported Mohammad Shami when he was being targeted because of his religion. What can be more shameful than this?”

She added, “The Delhi Police should immediately arrest those people.”
