Congratulations pour in for Droupadi Murmu on becoming 15th President of India

Politicians cutting across the party lines have congratulated Droupadi Murmu after she became the 15th President of India by defeating Yashwant Sinha. Murmu became the first tribal woman and the youngest to occupy the top post.

Murmu received 2,824 votes of 6,76,803 value while her rival, Sinha, polled 1,877 votes of 3,80,177 value.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji has been an outstanding MLA and Minister. She had an excellent tenure as Jharkhand Governor. I am certain she will be an outstanding President who will lead from the front and strengthen India’s development journey.”

Modi also met Murmu to congratulate her in person.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Congratulations and best wishes to Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji on being elected as the 15th President of India.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin tweeted, “Hearty congratulations to Hon’ble Droupadi Murmu avl on being elected to the highest constitutional position of India. Emerging from the oppressed sections of the society, we strongly believe that you will stand by silenced voices to ensure a thriving constitutional democracy, Stalin further said.

Greeting Murmu on behalf of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, people of Tamil Nadu and on his own behalf, Palaniswami said, “Mrs. Draupadi Murmu, a representative of the Tribal community has been elected as the President of the Republic of India on behalf of the National Democratic Alliance.”

Industrialist Naveen Jindal tweeted, “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Smt #DroupadiMurmu on being elected as the next #PresidentofIndia.”

Murmu, who was previously the Governor of Jharkhand, hails from the Santhal tribe and was born in the district of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
