BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Monday left his fans divided on whether the new National Cricket Academy to be built in Bengaluru should be named after Lata Mangeshkar. This was after the former India captain shared images of how the cricket facilities would look upon completion from his social media page.

Ganguly wrote while sharing the images on Instagram, “This is the new National cricket Academy #bcci.”

In another Instagram post, Ganguly wrote, “The new National cricket academy will start from today ..laid the foundation stone in presence of all bcci office bearers.”

In the photo, Ganguly could be seen performing the rituals along with Jay Shah, the son of Home Minister Amit Shah, and former India batsman VVS Laxman. Laxman is also the head of the National Cricket Academy.

No sooner did Ganguly shared images of the NCA, one fan suggested that the new cricketing facilities must be named after singer Lata Mangeshkar, who recently passed away. The fan in question wrote, “Dada… I’m a big fan of yours and Could I suggest that seeing Lata Didi’s love towards cricket …. National Cricket Academy should be named after #latamangeshkar .. if it be so crores of music and cricket fraternity will co.e together and rejoice it life long (sic).”

Another fan agreed, “Absolutely. It’s a very good proposal.”

But not everyone agreed with the suggestion of naming the NCA after a late Bollywood singer. One fan wrote, “Now this will be too much. Let Bollywood handle that and think of naming their studio or recording studio in her memory.” Another fan replied, “she didn’t think ‘let cricket board handle the prize amount problem for 83 wc winners’ she did a concert for free to arrange the money for WC winners.”

Mangeshkar died earlier this month at the age of 92.
