“I will continue to work constitutionally (as MP) in Asansol, WB. There is politics beyond constitutional post & I withdraw myself from it. I will not join any other party. I will vacate the MP bungalow in Delhi& release security personnel from their duties soon,” Supriyo was quoted by news agency ANI.

The BJP MP from Asansol had stunned his party over the weekend by announcing his decision to quit politics. Supriyo had also said that he would soon be resigning as an MP.

However, he appeared to have agreed to complete his term as an MP till 2024. Supriyo has reported told Nadda that he had no desire to contest the next Lok Sabha polls.

In a long social media post in Bengal, the former union minister had said, “I am going..Alvida (Goodbye…) Heard everything from everyone – Father, (mother) wife, daughter, two dear friends.. I say after listening to everything, I am going…’Stayed for some time’.. Kept some mind and broke some.. Somewhere I may have made you happy with my work, somewhere I am disappointed | You will not evaluate.”

Surpiyo, a former Bollywood singer, was dropped from the Narendra Modi cabinet earlier this month ahead of the much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle. His ouster from the cabinet had come weeks after the BJP suffered a defeat in the assembly polls in Supriyo’s home state of Bengal.

Supriyo had first said in his social media post that he would not join any political parties but eagle-eyed journalists had pointed out how the former had later removed that portion from his Facebook post.
