‘Suspension of work’ was declared in two tea estates of Alipurduar district in West Bengal on Wednesday rendering 4,500 workers unemployed.

Union sources, according to PTI, said that the work suspension was declared at Kalchini and Raymmatan tea gardens citing financial constraints.

However, the unions including UTUC, INTTUC, INTUC, CITU and others, rubbished the claim of the management and said the plantations had cash flow to run the gardems.

The workers were also not getting drinking water for past three days, the unions said.

The managements confirmed the closure of the tea gardens but said they were trying best to open the tea gardens.
