Two famous food delivery mobile apps from India Pakistan have clashed on Twitter with ‘burger’ or ‘pizze’ jibes hurled at each other ahead of the much-awaited India-Pakistan cricket match in the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
It was first Zomato, one of India’s most popular food delivery mobile app, which took a swipe at the Pakistani Cricket Board as it wrote on the microblogging site, “Dear @TheRealPCB, in case you’re looking for burger or pizze? tonight, we’re just a DM away.”
The ‘burger or pizze’ jibe by Zomato appeared in relation to the famous rant by a Pakistani fan after India’s victory over their arch-rival in a match during the 2019 cricket World Cup in England. The video of a Pakistani fan accusing players from Pakistan of spending their time in consuming ‘burger and pizza’ instead of preparing for the World Cup match had gone viral.
Speaking to a TV channel, the fan in question had said, “Mujhe pata chala hai kal raat ye log burger khate rahe hai, kal raat ye kog pizza khate rahe hai.” (I came to that yesterday these players were eating burgers and pizzas).”
Responding to Zomato’s tongue-in-cheek tweet, Careem Pakistan, a popular food delivery app in Dubai, wrote on Twitter, “Don’t worry we are delivering free burgers and pizze to them tomorrow. And some ‘fantastic tea’ for you? Eyes.#24thOctober #PakVsInd.”
The ‘fantastic tea’ jibe by Careem Pakistan was in response to the capturing of Indian Air Force Officer Abhinandan Varthaman in 2019 by the Pakistani military. The video of Wing Commander Abhinandan praising Pakistani tea had gone viral. A little-known Pakistani TV channel had even recreated that episode in an ad to mock India before the India-Pakistan clash in 2019. Pakistan had gone on to lose that match.
Pakistan has never defeated India in a World Cup match.
