England has created history by reaching their first-ever final of a European Championship after the three lions defeated Denmark 2-1 in the semi-final, played at London’s Wembley Arena.
Mikkel Damsgaard gave the much-needed lead to Denmark with a brilliant free kick in the 30th minute of the game. However, the lead was short-lived as England began to mount their attack. Their aggression paid off in the 39th minute as Simon Kjær ended up scoring an own goal.
This changed the game for England as they began to dominate the match and created a series of opportunities for themselves. Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel dived to his right to make a superb save in the 52nd minute when Harry Maguire’s header was racing into the nets.
The score in the regulation time remained 1-1, but when the extra time began England continued to launch more attacks. Their efforts paid off when Raheem Sterling earned the three lions a penalty. Skipper Harry Kane missed the penalty in his first attempt but scored on the rebound, giving England the much-needed 2-1 lead in the 104th minute of the match.
England had come into the semi-final hoping to reach their first-ever Euros final and also the first major tournament final since 1966 when they won the World Cup.
England will now face Italy in the final on Sunday.
