The development comes as a huge setback to the Hindutva party since assembly polls in Uttarakhand are barely a few months away.

The BJP had won the last assembly polls in 2017 by defeating the Congress. But, the party leadership appears to be extremely worried that it may not be able to repeat its last electoral performance when the state goes to polls in February next year.

Rawat is likely to meet Governor tomorrow at 11 AM. But, according to NDTV, Rawat handed in his papers to his party chief JP Nadda before meeting the governor.
