Aaj Tak TV anchor Rohit Sardana has died days after testing positive for coronavirus. Announcing the news, India Today’s consulting editor Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted, “More terrible news friends. Well known Tv news anchor Rohit Sardana has passed away. Had a heart attack this morning. Deep condolences to his family. RIP.”
Sardesai added, “Rohit and I had differing political views but always enjoyed debating without any rancour. We did a show one night that finished at 3 am (think it was SC verdict on Karnataka) after which he said, ‘boss aaj maza aa gaya!’ He was a passionate anchor journalist. RIP Rohit Sardana.”
Sardana was earlier associated with Zee News before joining India Today. He always faced criticism for his brazen biases for the BJP and alleged Islamophobia during his broadcast. In November 2017, several Muslim groups had filed police complaints against Aaj Tak journalist Rohit Sardana for his tweet disparagingly referring to women in Islam and Christianity including Prophet Muhammad’s( peace be upon him) wife Ayesha, daughter Fatima and Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.
Sardana had also faced criticism for running malicious debates against the members of Tablighi Jamaat last year.
