The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a petition filed by rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, Devinder Sehrawat, who had moved the top court to challenge the disqualification notice issued to him by the Delhi Assembly Speaker under the anti-defection law.
The decision to serve him notice on disqualification was taken by the Delhi Assembly Speaker after Sehrawat officially joined the BJP last month. Sehrawat was elected on an AAP ticket from Bijwasan in the 2015 assembly polls. He was suspended by the AAP in September 2016 for anti-party activities. He had accused party leaders in Punjab of ‘exploiting women’ in return for tickets. “Sehrawat has been suspended by the disciplinary committee till pending enquiry,” AAP’s the then Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey had said.

The Supreme Court bench had first told senior advocate Soli Sorabjee, appearing for Sehrawat, to approach the Delhi High Court in the matter. Later, according to news agency PTI, the bench asked Sorabjee to circulate the petition and to mention the matter before it on Thursday.
Besides Sehrawat, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat had also issued a notice to another rebel AAP MLA Anil Bajpai after the party moved a petition seeking their disqualification under the anti-defection law for joining the BJP.
