Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has said that he felt angry over how the death of a cow was being given more importance than the murder of a police officer. He said that he worried about his children in the new India.

His comments came just days after right-wing fanatics killed a police officer Subodh Kumar Singh in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr as they protested against the alleged cow slaughter in the area. The key accused in Singh’s murder case have not been arrested. The’ve, however, continued to give interviews to news channels.

Shah told Karwan-e-Mohabbat India, “I worry about my children because they don’t have a religion…I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and ask them ‘are you a Hindu or a Muslim,’ They will have no answer. It worries me because I don’t see the situation improving anytime soon.”

He said that the situation caused by the right-wing brigade in India had gone out of control. He said, “The poison has already spread. It will be very difficult to capture this jinn back into the bottle again. There is complete impunity for those who take the law into their hands. In many areas, we are witnessing that a death of a cow has more significance than that of a police officer.

He said that the worsening situation in India did not scare him but made him angry. Shah said that he wanted every ‘right-thinking person’ to feel angry and ‘not scared.’ “This is our home. Who can evict us out of here?”

Shah found plenty of support on social media even the official Twitter handle of the Congress tweeted, “NaseeruddinShah we concur, do not fear the hate, fight it.”

Shah was recently in news after he called the Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli the world’s worst behaved player. He had said, “Virat K is not only the worlds best batsman but also the worlds worst behaved player. His cricketing brilliance pales beside his arrogance and bad manners.. And I have no intention of leaving the country by the way. (sic)”
