BJP MLC in Uttar Pradesh, Bukkal Nawab, has courted a new controversy by claiming that Lord Hanuman was a Muslim. His comments came just days after his party leader in the state and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that Hanuman was a Dalit.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Nawab said, “Hamara man’na hai Hanuman ji Muslaman theyy, isliye Musalmanon ke andar jo naam rakha jata hai Rehman, Ramzan, Farman, Zishan, Qurban jitne bhi naam rakhe jaate hain wo karib karib unhi par rakhe jaate hain. (Our belief is that Hanuman ji was a Muslim. That’s why Muslim names are Rehman, Ramzan, Farman, Zishan, Qurban. These names almost sound like that.”

Nawab’s logic has left Twitterati speechless. RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP, Misa Bharti, wrote, “Hmm ? Salman, Rahman …. Hanuman …. Musalman…. BJP MLC Logic !!! Now what will YogiJi say?”One user wrote, “Power of weed.” Another commented, “Time to leave planet.”
Recently, reacting to Adityanath’s Dalit comments for Hanuman, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had said that it was like a no-ball thrown at the opposition. He had said, “You (media) don’t see good things, you only pick on who said what on Hanuman. If someone has thrown a no-ball, then you will only show that all through the day.”
The BJP went on to lose Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan to the Congress in the just concluded assembly elections. Adityanath’s attempts to divide the voters along the lines of religion backfired for the BJP.
