AICC General Secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Thursday cancelled her much-anticipated press meet in Lucknow due to the Pulwama terror attack that killed at least 28 CRPF soldiers.
She arrived at the press venue and observed a minute of silence in respect for the fallen soldiers. She told reporters, “It is not proper that we discuss politics today on a day this terror attack has taken place. I am very pained.”
Earlier, the Congress released a statement by Priyanka, expressing her grief over the loss of lives of CRPF soldiers. The statement by Priyanka read, “Deepest condolences to the families of the 30 Jawans martyred in a terror attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. I can very well understand the pain and grief of losing a loved one in the family.
“I want to say that not only the Congress party, but the entire country is standing shoulder to shoulder with the families of our brave soldiers. But we must also reflect and be concerned about the high number of casualties in Kashmir. We demand that this government take concrete steps to ensure such terror attacks don’t happen in the future.”
Priyanka is expected to return to Delhi on Friday, when she will meet her campaign team to decide the strategy for the Lok Sabha polls.
On Thursday, a suicide bomber belonging to terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed had caused large-scale carnage in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. At least 28 CRPF soldiers are believed to have died in the attack. However, the toll could be significantly higher as the number of soldiers critically injured is quite high.
