A tweet by the Sharjah Police read, “A note of what is being shared through social media about the case of an Asian nationality women who was exposed to violence by her husband in the Emirate of Sharjah, the case was dealt with by the competent authorities.”

The Sharjah Police also advised people to not post such videos on social media for a potentially negative impact on society. It wrote, “Accordingly, the Sharjah Police General Headquarters urges members of the public not to share such cases because of the negative repercussions and disturbances among the community members.”

The video of the woman, identified as Jasmine Sultana, had gone viral on social media platforms. Janta Ka Reporter had shared her video while tagging the Sharjah Police and the Indian external ministry for help.

The woman told a local newspaper that her husband assaulted her violently on Sunday night. “He punched more on my eyes, twisted my hands backwards, and hit me on my ribs, on my neck and my head. I thought I would die,” she told Khaleej Times.

Ironically, the woman’s video surfaced only two days after Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, passed a new family protection law to prevent domestic abuse and protect victims.
