India were humiliated by Australia in the first Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Cricket Ground. India scored their lowest-ever total when they were reduced to 36-9 in their second innings. Australia went on to inflict a humiliating defeat on the visitors when they won the Test match by eight wickets. Now, former India opener Wasim Jaffer has sent a cryptic message to Ajinkya Rahane advising him on the team selection for the second Test match, scheduled to start on Boxing Day.
Jaffer, whose hilarious memes have become hugely popular on Twitter, wrote, “Dear @ajinkyarahane88 ,here’s a (hidden) message for you. Good luck for Boxing Day!

Jaffer’s fans were quick to decode the message as one wrote, “Pick (Shubman) Gill and (KL) Rahul.” This was in response to criticism on the team selection for the first Test match by Virat Kohli and the team management. Many had questioned the rationale to prefer Prithvi Shaw over in-form batsman KL Rahul. Shaw was dismissed cheaply in both innings of the first Test match.
Jaffer is the batting coach of the IPL team, Kings XI Punjab. KL Rahul had emerged the highest-scorer while playing for Kings XI Punjab in the recently-concluded IPL competition in the UAE.
Rahane will lead the Indian team in the remaining three Test matches in the absence of Kohli, who is expected to be in India during the birth of his first child.
