Former India captain and a batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar, has sent a ‘thank you’ note to Prime Minister Narendra Modi all the way from England for promoting cricket during the latter’s recent visit to Maldives.
Taking to Twitter Tendulkar wrote, “Thank you for promoting cricket, @narendramodi ji. Good example of cricket diplomacy during the @cricketworldcup. Hoping to see Maldives on the ? map soon.”

Tendulkar was reacting to a social media post by Modi, who had shared a photo of himself presenting a cricket bat to the Maldives President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during his visit to the island country last week. Modi had written, “Connected by cricket!
My friend, President @ibusolih is an ardent cricket fan, so I presented him a cricket bat that has been signed by #TeamIndia playing at the #CWC19.”

There are reports that India will help Maldives in promoting cricket in the island country. Modi is believed to have instructed the external affairs ministry to coordinate with the Indian cricket board in ensuring that potential cricketers in Maldives are trained adequately. A BCCI had reportedly visited Maldvies last month ahead of Modi’s visit.
