According to latest reports, Russia and Qatar might face cancellation of their World Cup hosting rights if any evidence of bribery emerges. The announcement was made by FIFA official Domenico Scala.
Scala, who heads the FIFA’s audit and compliance committee, confirmed that World Cup hosting rights could be cancelled should there be any proof supporting that the awards to Qatar and Russia came only because of cash (bribery) for votes, the BBC reported.
However, Scala said that the organization has not come across any evidence of corruption as of now.
Sepp Blatter who was re-elected at the Zurich meeting for a fifth-term as FIFA president, stepped down after four days amidst the corruption scandal engulfing the football’s governing body in which several officials were arrested for corruption.
