In archery, India’s Atanu Das had defeated Deng Yu-Cheng of Chinese Taipei 6-4 in men’s singles round of 16 to book a place in the quarterfinals.
Elsewhere, India’s Satish Kumar had defeated Jamaica’s Ricardo Brown in men’s super heavyweight boxing in the round of 16.
India men’s hockey team had beaten defending champions Argentina 3-1 to also secure a place in the quarterfinals. India were trailing Argentina 0-1 before they bounced back to score three back-to-back goals to pull off a sensational victory. Argentina had won the goal medal in Rio Olympics, five years ago.
