Former IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday named Simon Katich as their new assistant coach for the 2016 IPL season.
The former Australian Test opener will be assisting head coach Jacques Kallis, who had earlier represented KKR as a player.
Kallis welcomed the decision. He said, “It is great to have Simon on my management team. I have played many games against him and his understanding of the game is very good. He is a great asset to have. I really look forward to formulating plans with him and the rest of the team to help KKR to another title in 2016.”
Making the announcement, CEO & MD of KKR, Venky Mysore, said, “Katich is a great addition to ‘Team KKR’. I am sure his T20 experience as well as his well organised coaching skills will come in handy for the KKR players.”
Katich carries with him a wealth of international cricket experience. He retired from T20 cricket to end his playing career in July last year. He led the Perth Scorchers to the Big Bash title in the 2013-14 season. He has also played in the 2009 edition of the IPL where he represented Kings XI Punjab.
The 2016 IPL will be played from 8 April to 29 May.
The IPL governing council has also decided the window for the 2017 season of the tournament. The 2017 IPL will be played between 5 April and 21 May.
