James Anderson’s 5-wicket haul demolishes India, Kohli’s men all out for 107 at Lord’s

Barely days after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of the England cricket team in their first Test match at Edgbaston, India faced another round of batting disaster their first innings at Lord’s on Friday.

Leading the charge for England was pacer James Anderson, who took 5 for 20 in a sensational bowling spell. His teammates Chris Woakes scalped two wickets while Sam Curran and Stuart Broad chipped in with one wicket each.

The match was halted by rain and the overcast weather provided the much-needed help to the English seamers with the extra bounce and swing. Friday’s performance was the 26th 5-wicket haul for Anderson in his Test career.

For India, R Ashwin was the highest scorer with 29 runs, while captain Virat Kohli could score only 23 runs before throwing his wicket off Woakes’ bowling. Such was the performance by the Indian batsmen that six of them couldn’t cross double-digit, while two of them returned to dressing dressing room without bothering the scorers.

Kohli was recently embroiled in a new controversy after his Bollywood actress wife Anushka Sharma posed in an official photo of Team india outside the Indian High Commission in London. Anushka’s presence had prompted many to ask if the Bollywood actress too had joined the national cricket team.

The BCCI had defended its decision.

Kohli’s captaincy had come udner serious scrutiny in the first Test with former England skipper Nasser Hussain his leadership for the Indian defeat.
