India’s PV Sindhu on Saturday lost to Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei in the women’s singles semi-final at Tokyo Olympics. Tai won the match in straight games 21-18, 21-12.
Tai Tzu-ying, a second seed in the competition, won the first game 21-18. The Indian shuttler gave a tough fight but she this wasn’t enough to secure the first game. Sindhu appeared to lose steam in the second game losing it comprehensively.
Sidhu had defeated Japan’s A Yamaguchi in straights games to secure a place in the semi-final.
Tai Tzu-ying has held the world number one ranking for 148 weeks and enjoyed a better head-to-head record against the Indian shuttler. Sindhu trailed 5-13 against Tai before today’s semi-final match.
Australian cricketer David Warned had urged fans to support Sindhu in the semi-final match. He had written on Instagram, “Make sure we all supporting @pvsindhu1 please she needs our support.”
Warner was responding to an Instagram post shared by IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad.
