The Indian cricket board has announced a new vice-captain for Team India for the remainder of the World Cup after it became clear that Hardik Pandya would miss out on the rest of the World Cup. The all-rounder from Gujarat has been forced to sit on the sidelines since injuring his ankles against Bangladesh on 19 October.

The Indian cricket board has also announced that Prasidh Krishna will join the team as Pandya’s replacement.

Reacting to his unavailability for the remainder of the World Cup, Pandya said, “Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I will be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special and I’m sure we’ll make everyone proud. Love, always, HP.”

The BCCI wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that ‘Prasidh Krishna will join the squad as a replacement.’

Meanwhile, KL Rahul will replace Panyda as the vice-captain of the team when India face South Africa on Sunday.

India have become the first team to secure a semi-final spot after winning all their seven matches so far. India are the only unbeaten side in the ongoing competition.

After facing South Africa, India’s only remaining match is against the Netherlands, scheduled to be held on 12 November.

In recent matches, Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 21 runs in a rain-affected match, thereby keeping their semi-final hopes alive. In another match, England faced their sixth straight defeat in the competition when they lost to Australia on Saturday.
