Argentina created history at Rio Olympics on Friday morning when they outclassed Belgium by beating 4-2 in the finals.
Argentina became the first south American team to win the Hockey Gold at Olympic Games. The victory became even sweeter because the games were being hosted by a south American country, Brazil, for the first time.
India had beaten Argentina 2-1 in the group stage.
Both Argentina and Belgium had reached the Olympic Games hockey final for the first time on Tuesday as defending champions Germany and fellow favourites Netherlands came up short.
Argentina had stunned Germany, the gold medallists in 2008 and 2012, by 5-2 while Belgium had outsmarted Netherlands 3-1 in the semi-final.
With this victory Argentina, ranked at seven in the world, surpassed their previous best Olympic performance of a fifth-place finish at the 1948 Games in London.
They had finished 10th, once again in London, four years ago.
