Abhinav Bindra qualifies for Rio Olympics

Abhinav Bindra qualified for Rio Olympics 2016 on Thursday, becoming the fourth Indian shooter to secure the spot.

Bindra, who is India’s only individual Olympic gold medallist, shot a score of 122.4 in the final 10m Air Rifle event at the 1972 Olympic Shooting Range in Hochbrucke on Thursday. He had shot 627.5 to qualify for the final in his pet event.

Previously, Gagan Narang, Jitu Rai and Apurvi Chandela have qualified for Rio Olympics.

The Beijing Olympic gold medallist, Bindea had previously announced his retirement from the sport. he retracted from the statement only to become a part of the Rio Olympics.

The President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Raninder Singh was thrilled upon hearing the news, as reported by The Times of India.

Raninder was reported saying, “I never had any doubts about Abhinav securing a quota place for us sooner or later. He is not an Olympic champion for nothing. He is very clear about his goals and his preparations leading up to big events, is something every professional sportsman in this country should emulate. We have our fingers crossed for him for the Olympics.”
