The Centre’s Narendra Modi government has withdrawn the ‘Y’ category security cover provided to Mukul Roy’s son Subhranshu Roy a day after the latter quit the BJP to join the Trinamool Congress along with his father. Subhranshu would now be provided with the state police security cover.
The Modi government had given the security cover of central security forces to all newly-elected MLAs from the BJP last month after the saffron party alleged largescale post-poll violence following an election win by the Trinamool Congress.
Earlier, Mukul Roy had asked the Centre to withdraw the security cover provided by the Modi government.
Both Mukul Roy and his son had joined the Trinamool in presence of Mamata Banerjee. There are speculations that more BJP MLAs and functionaries could join the Trinamool. The latest in the series is Rajiv Banerjee, who was brought in a chartered plane, provided by Home Minister Amit Shah, to Delhi to join the BJP in January this year. However, there are indications that Banerjee could be the next to return to the Trinamool.

Banerjee on Saturday met Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh, triggering speculations of his return to the party led by Mamata Banerjee.
Reports of a possible split in the Bengal unit of the BJP gained momentum in the wake of the resounding electoral win for Mamata Banerjee in May this year when the latter secured a third successive term as chief minister by winning more than 200 seats in the 294-seat state assembly. The BJP had to settle with just 70-odd seats.
