After former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan threw his weight behind Mohammad Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal and Harbhajan Singh have taken to social media to extend their support to the Indian fast bowler.
Chahal wrote on Twitter, “We are so proud of you @MdShami11 bhaiya,”

After facing criticism for not backing Shami, former India opener Virender Sehwag too tweeted in his support as he wrote, “The online attack on Mohammad Shami is shocking and we stand by him. He is a champion and Anyone who wears the India cap has India in their hearts far more than any online mob. With you Shami. Agle match mein dikado jalwa.”

Earlier Irfan Pathan had reacted angrily to the online abuse faced by Shami after India lost to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup match on Sunday. Pathan had written, ““Even I was part of #IndvsPak battles on the field where we have lost but never been told to go to Pakistan! I’m talking about India of few years back. THIS CRAP NEEDS TO STOP. #Shami.”
Indian skipper Virat Kohli, however, has continued to face criticism for his silence on the issue with many reminding him to learn from English cricketers, who rallied behind Moeen Ali when a known Bangladeshi hatemonger had attacked him using his religious faith.
