Vikas Barala, the son of Haryana BJP chief, Subhash Barala, was arrested on Wednesday in kidnapping and molestation cases by Chandigarh police.

This came fater the Chandigarh Police on Wednesday asked Barala junior to join the investigation into alleged stalking case of a woman, who’s the daughter of an IAS officer.

He’s been arrested in IPC 365 and 511, two sections that the police had dropped allegedly under pressure from the senior BJP leaders. However, under widespread condemnation, the police has been forced to dig out the CCTV footage that conclusively established that Barala junior had indeed chased Varnika Kundu, the daughter of the IAS officer in Haryana.

Varnika’s father had taken to Facebook to post an incredibly emotional account of what had happened to his daughter that fateful night.

BJP’s friends had indulged in victim-shaming by using fake photo of Varnika with her friends. Among those people who were part of the victim-shaming using a fake image also included Shaina NC and family members of Barala.

The police, which reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Centre’s Narendra Modi government, was condemned for weakening the case in a bid to facilitate the release of Barala junior and his friend, Ashish.

Speaking to media, the Chandigarh Police’s IG, Tejinder Luthra, had said that Barala had refused to give blood and urine samples.

He had said, “Accused refused to give their blood and urine samples. Such refusal will be held against them in the investigation and trial. Vikas Barala refused to accept the notice therefore we have pasted the notice on the wall of his residence.”
