Uttar Pradesh police have suspended a policeman after the video of his public brawl involving fellow cops went viral on social media.
Policeman Virendra Yadav was involved in public scuffle with other cops allegedly over the distribution of bribe amount collected from vendors and truck drivers in Itaunja area in the capital Lucknow.
Some reports suggested that Yadav fought with the home guard over clearing the traffic jam.
The cops have written a letter to Home Guard directorate seeking action against the home guard, Superintendent of Police Manjil Saini was quoted by Indian Express.
Saini, however, denied the bribery angle.
He said, “This is not true at all. Moreover the video is nearly two-three days old.”
A report by NewsX said that former DGP of the state Vikram Singh had condemned the incident stating that the cops seen in the video fighting should be immediately suspended as they failed to maintain the sanctity and respect for the police uniform.
The state goes for crucial assembly elections next year this incident has cast serious questions on the lawlessness under the Akhilesh Yadav government.
