Vasundhara Raje confesses to signing on Lalit Modi’s papers: reports

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia has reportedly confessed to the BJP leadership that she had indeed signed on Lalit Modi’s immigration papers, say media reports.

This, if true, will spell more trouble for Raje and her party.

There are already speculations that Raje could contemplate leaving the party if forced to resign as chief minister.

Commentators say that with these revelations, it will be impossible for the BJP’s beleaguered leader to continue to remain in her post.

Other leaders feeling the heat on Lalit Modi scandal are the external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and Raje’s son Dushyant Singh.

Congress party’s Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday had reignited the call for her resignation saying she stood “exposed completely” while batting for a “fugitive”. The  Congress also accused her of “repeatedly lying” and demanded her immediate resignation.

It all started when Vasundhara Raje was named in one of the documents released by Lalit Modi’s lawyer stating that Raje had supported the former IPL commissioner’s immigration application as “secret witness”. A senior advocate Poonam Bhandari stated that there were black money transactions between Lalit Modi and Raje’s son Dushyant Singh, for which the probe is on.

Lalit Modi’s isn’t the only scandal that has hit the BJP government at the centre recently. Two of its ministers in Maharashtra government are facing the heat on fake degree charges while another Pankaja Munde is accused of being involved in Rs 206 crore corruption scandal.

Elsewhere, Smriti Irani, the union HRD minister, too will now have to face the legal scrutiny in the allegations that she lied about her educational qualifications in affidavits to the election commision.
