Police in Greater Noida have said that a 47-year-old man allegedly killed his 34-year-old wife before committing suicide after a fight between them on Monday.
Resident of Galaxy Vega Apartments under Bisrakh police station limit in Greater Noida, Manisha Kohli and husband Girish Bhatnagar had got married two years ago after they met through a matrimonial site. Girish, who worked in a Delhi firm, had lost his some six months ago.
A suicide note found from the spot said that Girish had recently got to know that this was his wife’s second marriage. Also, according to the suicide note, Girish was being suspected of having an illicit relationship with his sister, who was also living with the couple.
“The suicide note mentioned that Manisha suspected her husband of having an extramarital affair and that the two would often argue over the issue. It led to Bhatnagar killing his wife by smashing her head with a mortar and pestle,” Akhilesh Tripathi, station house officer, Bisrakh police station, was quoted by Hindustan Times.
Tripathi said that when the wife’s brother and relatives tried to reach out to her on Monday morning, they received no response from her. “After several attempts to reach out to her, those nearby came to their apartment,” PTI quoted Tripathi as saying.
Tripathi said that the doors were closed from inside and the cops had to break open them to get the bodies out. Minisha’s body had severe injuries on the head and was soaked in blood, while Girish’s body was hanging from ceiling.
Police said that the husband’s sister was not at home at the time of the incident. Girish was originally from Ghaziabad, while Minisha, a housewife, hailed from Delhi. They had no children. Minisha’s family has not filed any formal complaint yet.
