Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has targeted the Centre’s Narendra Modi government for its inept handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as the national death toll neared 1.5 lakh mark.
Reacting to the news that the total number of positive coronavirus cases in India had gone past one crore, Gandhi reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi about his promise to control the pandemic within 21 days. The Congress leader wrote, “1 Crore covid infections with almost 1.5 lakh deaths! The unplanned lockdown did not manage to ‘win the battle in 21 days’ as the PM claimed, but it surely destroyed millions of lives in the country.”

In March, Modi had promised to control the COVID-19 pandemic within 21 days. “The Mahabharata war was won in 18 days, this war the whole country is fighting against coronavirus will take 21 days,” the prime minister had said soon after stunning everyone by announcing a nationwide lockdown by giving just four hours of notice.
His decision had caused mayhem across India as people struggled to adjust their lives due to unprecedented restrictions. Scores of people had died as they returned to their native places on foot.
