Indian Union Muslim League has won Kerala’s Vengara seat by 23,310 votes. The IMUL’s KNA Khader got 65,227 votes. The LDF candidate, PP Basheer, was placed second while the BJP’s K.Janachandran Master was at fourth position.
The Indian Union Muslim League(IUML) chief P.K. Kunhalikutty who vacated the Vengara seat and later won the Malappuram Lok Sabha seat earlier this year said the CPI-M used all its might and added that he predicted the outcome before the results were announced, reported Times of India.
Kunhalikutty had won Vengara seat in the 2016 assembly polls by over 38,000 votes.
Like Punjab, here too the election commission had used VVPAT machines for the bypolls. The CPI-M led LDF had won a landslide in Kerala last year. The BJP has been making desperate efforts to gain foothold in Kerala, where traditionally the power has been shared by the LDF and the UDF every five years.
The saffron party had, in the recent past, conducted a high-profile road show, which was attended by senior leaders including Amit Shah. Shah was, however, forced to abandon his yatra amidst reports of no response from ordinary public.
