This government is coward: Priyanka Gandhi’s brutal attack on Modi after nationwide protests by students against anti-Muslim Citizenship Act

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has lashed out at the Centre’s Narendra Modi government calling it a ‘government of cowards.’ Her comments came moments after students across India erupted in anger over the passage of the anti-Muslim amended Citizenship Act in both the houses of the parliament.

In a series of tweets, Priyanka wrote, “Students are being thrashed by entering universities. When the government ought to listen to people’s grievances, the BJP government is registering its presence by suppressing students and journalists in the north-east, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. This government is coward.”

Priyanka said that the government headed by Narendra Modi was scared of  people’s voice. It wants to suppress the courage of youth by hollow dictatorship. This is an Indian youth. Please listen Modi ji, this (uprising) will not stop. You will have to listen to the youths’ voices either today or tomorrow.”

Priyanka’s attack came hours after students protested across India. The Delhi Police came under condemnation for committing brutalities against students of Jamia Millia Islamia. There was a report of a student being killed in police firing, but the police have termed it a rumour.

In Aligarh Muslim University, the UP Police launched an equally brutal crackdown against protesting students inside the AMU campus. Cops were seen firing teargas shells and smashing motorbikes.

The AMU has been shut down till 5 January and exams cancelled. Internet services too have been suspended in Aligarh and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
