The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday once again repeated its earlier claim that BJP President Amit Shah had brought goons from outside West Bengal to cause violence in Kolkata on Tuesday. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had told a rally in Behala that the BJP hired goons from states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. The arrest of one Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, a resident of Delhi, later appeared to give credence to her claims.
Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien told reporters on Wednesday, “We are a cosmopolitan city, anybody can come and hold processions. But what was the outsider arrested for. Now you are complaining why outsiders are arrested. Who is Tajinder Baaga, Bagga sorry. Tajinder Bagga was arrested. Isn’t he the same guy, who slapped somebody in Delhi?”

Bagga, whose appointment as BJP’s Delhi unit spokesperson had raised several questions because of his violent past; was arrested by the Kolkata Police. He claimed to have been inside his hotel when the violence broke out near Vidyasagar College. He was later released on Wednesday morning.
The Trinamool has called for a protest today against the vandalisation of the bust of Vidyasagar.
