External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today left for New York for the International Yoga Day celebrations. Swaraj will be part of the Yoga Day which is being organised by the Indian Mission at the United Nations.
Swaraj, who left in an early morning Air India flight, tweeted about her trip
The International Yoga Day event will be attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon among others. The United Nations had in December last year declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.
The proposal was put forward by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his first address to the UN General Assembly in September last year.
Sushma Swaraj has been in the eye of storm after it was revealed that she had allegedly committed an act of conflict of interest by requesting the British authorities to issue travel documents to Modi, who was wanted by the Enforcement Directorate in multi-crore scandal.
