Sushma Swaraj fumes at Pak foreign minister’s googly remarks

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has reacted angrily at the ‘googly’ remarks by her Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, terming his country’s invite to India for Kartarpur corridor’s inauguration as masterstroke.

Qureshi on Thursday had said that Prime Minister Imran Khan sending invitation to India to attend the opening ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor was googly that prompted India to send two ministers. He had said, “Imran delivered a googly and India sent two ministers here.”

Reacting angrily, Swaraj tweeted on Sunday, “Mr.Foreign Minister of Pakistan – Your ‘googly’ remarks in a dramatic manner has exposed none but YOU. This shows that you have no respect for Sikh sentiments. You only play ‘googlies’.”

Her subsequent tweet read, “Let me explain to you that we were not trapped by your ‘googlies’. Our two Sikh Ministers went to Kartarpur Sahib to offer prayers in the Holy Gurudwara.”

While Swaraj had expressed her inability to travel to Pakistan for the historic occasion last week, she had deputed two Sikh minister namely Harsimrat Kaur Badal and HS Puri. Also travelling to Pakistan was Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.

While responding to Pakistan’s invitation, Swaraj had said, “I thank HE Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi Foreign Minister of Pakistan for inviting me to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor on the Pakistan side of the International boundary on 28 November 2018. Since I am unable to travel to Kartarpur Sahib on the scheduled date, Government of India will be represented by my esteemed colleagues Mrs.Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Mr.H.S.Puri.”

The Kartarpur corridor links Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, which is the final resting place of Sikh saint Guru Nanak Dev in Pakistan.
