Support pours in for Arvind Kejriwal as his protest at LG’s house enters fifth day

Politicians cutting across party lines have extended their support to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as his protest at the house of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal entered fourth day. This was amidst reports of one of his cabinet ministers, Satyendar Jain, developing health complications.

The reports of Jain’s health deteriorating followed by announcement that Kejriwal’s deputy, Manish Sisodia, too joining Delhi health minister in his indefinite fast prompted their family members to urge Baijal to allow them access to their spouses.

Sunita Kejriwal, Delhi chief minister’s wife, made a desperate appeal to Baijal requesting him to allow the families to meet their minister husbands, who’ve been protesting at the LG Niwas for the last four days.

Taking to Twitter, the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife wrote, “@LtGovDelhi  Kindly allow the members of family to visit. Satyender Jain is not well.”

Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues namely Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai and Satyendar Jain have been protesting at Delhi LG, Anil Baijal’s house for the last four days demanding his intervention to end the strike by civil servants of the Delhi government. The civil servants have allegedly not been reporting to work since Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash alleged he was assaulted by two AAP MLAs at Kejriwal’s house.

In a separate tweet, Mrs Kejriwal also posted a photo of herself with Delhi Chief Minister’s mother and wives of Sisodia and Jain with the following message, “Respected LG sir, are we four ladies, mother and wife of CM,wife of Dy CM and wife of Satyendar Jain threat to your security that you are not allowing us to enter the road leading to your house?Kindly intervene. Please do not feel so threatened by everyone. Regards.”

Meanwhile, calls for support have been pouring in for Kejriwal and his colleagues from across India.Veteran actor Kamal Haasan tweeted, “Interference in the functioning of an elected government is unacceptable in a democracy. In fact what is happening in Delhi and in TN/Pondicherry are not too different. It is frustrating for people who want a change for the better. @ArvindKejriwal”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote, ” @ArvindKejriwal, CM of Delhi is sitting in a dharna in LG’s office for the last few days in the capital city of the country. Elected CM must get due respect. May I appeal to the Govt of India and @LtGovDelhi to resolve the problem immediately so that people do not suffer.”

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, too extended their support to Kejriwal.

Dissident BJP leader and MP Shatrughan Singha asked his own party leadership why it was reneging on the promise to grant Delhi a full statehood since this had always been on the agenda of the saffron party. He asked, “Dear Sir! You will remember that this (full statehood for Delhi) has been a very strong demand of our party since ages and of some other parties too. Sir, when do we see this happening? I hope, wish & pray it is soon, sooner the better. Jai Hind!.”

Meanwhile, in an unprecedented development, alleged BJP supporters gained access into the state secretariat to put up a poster mocking Kejriwal and indulged in chanting against the Delhi chief minister.

Reacting to the development, Kejriwal wrote, “BJP has gained controlled of the secretariat. Absolutely shocking. How was it allowed? Who allowed this to happen? Where was Police, Security, Bureaucracy?”
