Sunanda Pushkar death case: Shashi Tharoor charged with abetment to suicide

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been charged with abetment to suicide in the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.

This was after the Delhi Police filed a charge-sheet before metropolitan  magistrate Dharmender Singh at Patiala House Court under sections 498 A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to reports, the cops have concluded that it was a case of suicide and not murder. The FIR in the case was filed under section 302 IPC.

Pushkar had died in a mysterious condition in 2014 at a Delhi hotel. The Delhi High Court in August last year had asked the Delhi police to inform it after two weeks the status of the probe into the death of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar.

The medical board constituted to submit a report on the death of Sunanda Pushkar had  failed to make any conclusions in its findings submitted to Delhi Police.

In its report submitted to the SIT last year, which is probing the case, the medical board, after studying the findings of FBI and AIIMS had said the cause of her death is inconclusive. The Delhi Police had first claimed that the 51-year-old was poisoned, and registered a murder case in January 2015, without naming any suspect.
