Sonam Kapoor blamed for ‘decline in Indian culture’ after she sports mangalsutra on wrist

Sonam Kapoor had faced criticism from right-wing Hindutva brigade after reports emerged that she had conducted her wedding according to Sikh rituals. Weeks have passed since Sonam got married to Anand Ahuja, but nobody seems to be in the mood to let go of the buzz surrounding their union.

The attire, jewellery, designers, guest lists, food have all being discussed over and over again. Inspite of Sonam’s professional engagements, she has manged to effectively play the role of bride both during and immediately after her wedding.

Soon after tying the knot, Sonam was seeing changing her name on social media. The Kapoor in her name was relaced with Ahuja which is her husbands surname. It seems like Sonam is sticking to all the traditionality associated with Indian brides. Recently she was seen sporting even a mangalsutra, the traditional neckpiece that the groom puts on the bride during the actual marriage ritual.

There also is a story behind Sonam’s mangalsutra, designed by the fashionista herself, it is a star signed one. The design execution is done by Usheeta Rawtani. She explained the story behind Sonam’s mangalsutra, “A mangalsutra is a sacred necklace that a groom ties around a brides neck in an Indian wedding ceremony.  This one was especially designed by the bride (@sonamkapoor) herself and executed by us. It has symbols of both their star signs. Hers being Gemini (on the left) and his Leo (on the right) these are complimented by a Solitaire in the centre.”

Recently, in one of Sonam’s high fashion instagram pics that she put up while on promotion duty for Veere Di wedding, Sonam wore a a lovely, red-white fusion suit. Her attire was complimented with black pumps and a leather box handbag. What was also unmissable was the mangalsutra which was wrapped around Sonam’s left wrist. This unconventional way of wearing the traditional neck piece is quite impressive and something that a fasion savvy Sonam could only pull off. A true amalgamation of traditional yet stylish.

Sonam Kapoor’s decision to wear the mangalsutra as bracelet however was widely viewed as an insult to Indian culture by many social media users;

Sonam was recently called ‘Hindu-hater’ for her decision to stand against the gang-rape and murder of the 8-year-old Kathua girl. Interestingly, the Veere Di Wedding actor was slammed by feminist groups on her wedding day for wearing the mangalsutra.
