Sister Nirmala of Missionary of Charity dies, PM sends condolence

Sister Nirmala, who succeeded Mother Teresa in 1997, has died in Kolkata at the age of 81.

Reacting to her death, Prime Minister Narendra said, “Sister Nirmala’s life was devoted to service, caring for the poor & underprivileged. Saddened by her demise. May her soul rest in peace.”

Congress  vice president Rahul Gandhi tweetd, ” Extremely saddened at the passing away of Sister Nirmala.She carried forward Mother Teresa’s work with quiet dedication &dignity. She will be missed by the countless whose lives she touched (sic).”

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, ” Saddened at the passing of Sister Nirmala who headed Missionaries of Charity after Mother Teresa. Kolkata and the world will miss her.”
