A day after filing for divorce from his wife Aishwarya Rai, Tej Pratap Yadav has made stunning claims on why he was determined to separate from the former, who he married only in May this year.

En route to Ranci to meet his ailing father Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tej Pratap made a brief stopover in Bodh Gaya, where he told reporters that his marriage was a mismatch from the day one. Calling his wife a ‘modern woman,’ Tej Pratap said, “I had told my parents that I did not wish to marry at this moment of time. But nobody listened to me. Ours was a mismatch. I am a simple man with simple habits while she is a modern woman, educated in Delhi and used to life in a metropolis.”

Asked about the timing of his decision particularly when his father was grappling with poor health inside the jail, he said, “I have been living a stifled life. How long can one go on like this?”

“I’m North Pole and she’s South Pole. There have been fights between me and my wife in front of my parents. I don’t want to live with her anymore. Ghut ghut ke jeene se toh koi fayeda nahi hai (no point being unhappy and stifled),” NDTV quoted him as saying.

Tej Pratap Yadav had filed for divorce in a Patna court on Friday. His lawyer Yashwant Kumar Sharma was quoted by news agency as saying, ” They couldn’t get along. An application under Hindu Marriage Act was filed through me on behalf of Tej Pratap Yadav. I can’t say anything else at this moment.”

Tej Pratap Yadav and Aishwarya had got married in May this year, a month after their engagement in Patna. Aishwarya is the oldest daughter of six-time RJD MLA, Chandrika Prasad Rai. Rai was also a minister in the previous RJD government.

More than 30,000 people had reportedly attended Tej Pratap’s wedding. Among his star guests were former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Congress veteran Digvijay Singh, NCP leader Praful Patel, Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Patna Sahib MP Shatrughan Sinha and Sharad Yadav. Lalu Yadav, currently serving jail sentence in fodder scam case,  was given a special permission by Ranchi High Court to attend his son’s wedding.

Tej Pratap is the elder son of former Bihar Chief Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. He also held the health ministry’s portfolio in the Nitish Kumar government before the JDU decided to dump the RJD and the Congress to align with the BJP.

In July, Tej Pratap had alleged that his Facebook page was hacked after his social media post targeting his mother Rabri Devi went viral. Tej Pratap had threatened to quit politicsafter holding his mother, among others, responsible for misinformation being spread by his own party leaders against him.

In his controversial Facebook post, which he later deleted, Tej Pratap, had recounted how during his recent trip to his assembly constituency in Mahua, he had learnt that two RJD leaders namely Om Prakash Yadav and MLC Subodh Kumar Rai were trying to harm his reputation by using disparaging terminologies against him. He wrote that he was capable of teaching all of them lesson but his hands were tied because his own mother scolded him when he raised those issued with her.
