Shocking: Dalit woman dragged out of office, kidnapped and raped in Punjab. No one came for her help

In a chilling development, a woman was recently dragged out of her office, abducted and later raped by a man in Punjab’s Muktsar town.

As reported by India Today, the CCTV video obtained shows a man dragging the woman in broad daylight across a street while she is struggling and shouting for help.

The alleged incident took place on 25 March.

Even though several people and vehicles could be seen in the video but no one, according to NDTV report, stopped to help the Dalit woman.

The woman told the police that she was later raped by the man at a farmhouse. What’s more tragic is that the local police has not been able to arrest the alleged rapist even almost a month after the gruesome incident.

According to NDTV, which too described the girl as Dalit, the police registered a first information report or FIR only five days after the incident, and are yet to make an arrest in the case almost a month later.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken note of the incident and summoned top Muktsar Police officers demanding an explanation over the delay in arresting the accused.
