Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev may be a school dropout alright, but this will will hardly be a stumbling block for him to get a doctorate degree in Haryana on Sunday.
Haryana’s Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University is all set to confer honorary doctorate degrees on Ramdev during its 24th convocation on July 26.
Joining him will be the newly elected chief minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, who too will be conferred with a doctorate degree.
According to an official from the university, the board had met last week, when the names of Baba Ramdev and Khattar were decided for this year’s honours.
Baba Ramdev will be joining the distinguished league of people, who have already been awarded with the honorary doctorate degrees in the past. They are former prime ministers, Manmohan Singh (he received this honour as India’s finance minister), Chaudhary Charan Singh, PV Narasimha Rao and former chief minister Bansi Lal and Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
A source close to Baba Ramdev told www.jantakareporter.com that Baba Ramdev will attend the convocation ceremony on Sunday.
The yoga guru is a school dropout and didn’t continue with his education beyond middle school.
In January this year, the Yoga guru was made Haryana’s brand ambassador by the newly elected BJP government of the state. In April, the state government announced its plan to accord a cabinet minister’s status to Ramdev. With this new honour, he’s been entitled to a red beacon car, additional security from the state and other such facilities under the protocol. It also makes him a state guest whenever he is in the state.
